Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes (2011)

Had I known that James Franco played a scientist rather than an ape (à la Roddy MacDowell) in Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes I would not have rushed to the cheap movie theatre to see it. Had I known that the only apes I would see were created with computers but with no genitals, I would have passed on the 3:10 showing. But I didn't know; I didn't know.

...Pineapple Express (Theatrical) (2008)

I revisited this movie but this time watched the theatrical version and, from a high level (no pun intended, really), Pineapple Express is the spear, stoner version of Outrageous Fortune - two innocent, main characters (Seth Rogen and a very cute James Franco) get involved with murder and crime (or go further back and liken it to Billy Wilder's classic Some LIke It Hot). There are some genuinely funny moments but the pop guns and over-the-top violent non-violence do tend to drag it down. Probably not worth viewing except from a high level (pun intended).

...Pineapple Express (Unrated) (2008)

I can't figure out why Pineapple Express was received by film critics so positively. It's dopey (pun intended) and rather childish and, IMHO, inferior to The 40 Year Old Virgin, an excellent film from the Judd Apatow factory. I enjoyed James Franco's performance but Seth Rogen was not seen in his best light which, as star and co-writer, makes this one much ado about nothing.
